Our Countries

Cameroon

Cameroon Occupies about 10 percent of the Congo Basin forest and among the countries in the region with the highest deforestation rates. Cameroon has strong CSO network, setting a more or less good example for the region. Often seen as a policy nursery from where multilateral institutions experiment and then transplant policy processes to other countries in the central African region.

Central African Republic (CAR)

Cover about 3 percent of the Congo Basin forest. High need, low civil society presence. Although a number of international and national civil society organizations are involved in pursuing issues relating to forestry and the environment, the overall development of civil society remains very weak.

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Across the entire region this is the largest and richest country in terms of natural resources. The country is vulnerable to shocks and prone to crises. The environmental and social threats to forest –dependent communities are strong. There is a high CSO presence, though struggling with capacity issues.

Gabon

Occupy about 13 percent of the Congo Basin forest and has a huge forest cover. The national CSO is weak. Low CSO and other non-state actors presence in the country, means less voice and choice of IP and LC.

Republic of Congo (ROC)

Occupy almost 13 percent of the Congo Basin forest. It hosts, alongside the DRC, one of the largest stretches of carbon rich peat forests in the world. CSOs are weak.
